January 29, 2010 - Tampa, Florida - When President Obama and Vice President Biden visited the University of Tampa on Thursday, January 28th to announce the award of high-speed rail funding to Florida, hundreds of attendees used HART to get there.
Working with the City of Tampa and Tampa Police Department, HART provided a free parking shuttle to help manage traffic amid road closures around the UT campus. HART buses and emergency vehicles were the only vehicles to be allowed on North Boulevard after the shutdown.
Of the approximately 1,000 people who received public tickets that were handed out on Wednesday, more than 80% hopped aboard a bus to the town hall meeting.
HART is proud to have partnered in this major event for our area. Its success demonstrates the important role public transportation can play in a community.
