BUS, VAN DRIVERS COMPETE IN ANNUAL “ROADEO”
February 8, 2007, Tampa, FL – Imagine trying to maneuver a 40-foot bus through a challenging obstacle course—without hitting anything, of course—and being timed while you do it.
That’s exactly what some of the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority’s (HART) best drivers will be doing at the 2007 Bus/Paratransit/Maintenance “Roadeo,” this Saturday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at HART’s operations facility located at 4305 21st Avenue East in Tampa.
Bus operators, paratransit van operators, and maintenance teams who have signed up and met qualifications will compete in this year’s event. The bus and paratransit roadeo competition will consist of operators driving a vehicle on a timed and precisely laid-out obstacle course, while the maintenance competition will feature maintenance teams troubleshooting defects involving engines, transmissions, brake systems and air conditioning components within specific time limits.
Several HART drivers have received national recognition for their outstanding safety records, and the roadeo allows them to demonstrate the professionalism and skill required to be a safe driver.
