HART ANNOUNCES PUBLIC WORKSHOP

FEBRUARY 16, 1999 - TAMPA, FLORIDA - The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) will hold a public workshop to invite public input that will help shape the future of its organization. The bus planning workshop will be held on Thursday, February 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dr. Alfano Memorial Center, 11606 McKinley Drive (at Fowler Avenue) across from USF. The workshop is the second in a series of three workshops that are part of the HART Mobility Project Bus Operations and Facilities Planning activities.

Input received by participants of this and other workshops will be used to identify bus system services that would be responsive to current and future travel demand and consider:

  • An appropriate mix of transit service types;
  • Development of an intermodal transportation system; and
  • Development of market driven transit services.

The workshop will be divided into two sessions. The first part will review success stories presented by fellow Florida transit systems. The second part will involve dividing participants into groups and developing bus system concepts for the project study area. This workshop builds on the results of the previous workshop held in November 1998.

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority provides transit service in Hillsborough County, including the City of Tampa, the City of Temple Terrace, and portions of unincorporated Hillsborough County via 44 bus routes. HART offers a Corporate Transit Sponsor Program for area employers wanting to reduce taxes and enhance their employee benefits package. All HART buses are accessible to people with disabilities. A speakers' bureau is available to address your business or civic association, and the Bus Buddy Program has been designed to provide complimentary one-on-one training on how to use the bus system.

For more information on bus routes, transit fares and other customer services, call the HARTinfo Line at (813) 254-4278 and at 626- 9158 for TDD/hearing impaired.
