USF Transportation Specialist Named to HART BoardHART Board Member Dr. Steven E. Polzin

February 21, 2008 – Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners has named Dr. Steven Polzin to the Board of Directors of the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority.

Dr. Polzin is director of public transportation research at the Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida and is responsible for coordinating the Center’s involvement in the University’s educational programs. He is involved in a variety of transportation research and teaching activities at the university.

Before joining the University of South Florida in 1988, Dr. Polzin worked for transit agencies in Chicago, Cleveland, and Dallas. He previously served on the HART Board of Directors from 2000 until 2006.

Dr. Polzin received a BSCE from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University in Chicago. He is active in a number of professional organizations, and is regularly cited and published in the media on mobility and transportation issues.

Members of the HART Board are appointed by the Hillsborough County Commission, the City of Tampa, the City of Temple Terrace, and the State of Florida. Dr. Polzin will complete the term of Edward Giunta, who resigned from the HART Board in November. The term is set to expire on September 30 of this year.

The mission of the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) is to provide public transportation services which are safe, dependable and cost effective, thereby enhancing the quality of life in our community.
